I’m fairly certain AirPlay is actually a standard that Apple has licensed from another company which is why there were already a few receivers on the market that supported or could be updated to support AirPlay.

I think they also fixed Addressbook. I don’t remember it looking quite like that. Had to resync my contacts. Also made me resync my bookmarks.

It probably makes a lot of sense for Pioneer to pay the $4, as it gives them a USP. “One of the few (only?) receivers to which an iPhone/iPad can stream”.
If it becomes more widely licensed, it’s no longer a USP. It’s probably not worth $4 any more, and competing standards will become more common.
The point was to be type-centric rather than product centric because it can be used as a net for all future products as well, while with your proposal, we might need to be adding or removing categories depending on how Apple changes their product lineup,

I’m not convinced yours will do this to be honest. Your categories don’t seem totally clear to me.
3. Maximize the usefulness of the Macrumors Guides to everybody, not just the average user, and not just Macrumors users (it would still drive traffic to Macrumors though).
4. It would cover a network of related technologies and not just Apple’s products and services helping new users get the most out of their new hardware purchase (as I understand it, many new Mac users and maybe iPhone users now also end up on Macrumors looking for help, advice, and to join the Mac User community).
5. Also serve as a reference for older and experienced users.
Both of which are essential.

This is the primary design flaw with the iPad. This tablet can’t be the normal person’s computer unless every normal person has a tech friend/relative to keep the tablet working/updated. So while Woz is correct that the tablet will be the normal person’s computer, Apple’s iPad is not yet that tablet.
Same for all the iGadgets with an iTunes account attached. Why apple doesn’t make the default behaviour “charge” not “sync” and then simply verify that it’s not the same iTunes account and “do nothing” instead of the hassle of it hiding all your music if you plug an iDevice into a PC and you’re mate decides to click eject for you if your charging off it.
I can understand the need to only offer syncing on a device that isn’t internet and wifi enabled because the only way of adding stuff to it is to sync to a computer but for all the other devices, it would be good if it was 100% self-contained.
I’d have no issues getting a used Mac Mini then turning it into a media centre through an LCD TV at a later date because I eventually know a Mac Pro would be my best choice for running Pro Tools 9. Someone who just wants to listen to and buy music or video, send emails, view youTube clips and keep in touch on social networking sites doesn’t necessarily need a computer when the iPad does it all. Apple could even offer a way of interfacing their external DVD from the Macbook Air with the iDevices so you can rip your own music to the device itself without even needing a computer.

Apple should have extended the full education discount of 14% to students. As much as I love Apple’s products, they’re very much an overly greedy company these days. They’re also possibly being myopic, as students are highly likely to buy content for the device IMO

Uh, why? How is it shameful? This isn’t an item that is even remotely usable for studying with alone - what other electronics company does student discount on the scale that Apple does? The iPad is a glorified iPod touch, it is not a learning device (yet), not will it replace a computer in the home unless all you use is Facebook, even then you can’t upload photos without the use of another computer.
Who cares??? its a $500 device that can replace all computer needs of any student. Period.
I’m tired of hearing this backwater lack of imagination. Every student should have an iPad, and the great news is that most can afford one, even without “discounts”.

The worst “feature” of Aperture is the high computer requirements. It really is a resource hog for not much reason. LR is becoming very similar with far less system specs.

Wasn’t Quake 1 a software rendered game? In that case, the graphics processor has nothing to do with it. Even if it is OpenGL accelerated, the integrated graphics should have no problem on such an old game.

Before I get flamed about how it’s worth the performance hit and cost to avoid the PCs reputation for more downtime. I haven’t a problem like that since NT4 with sp3 as long as I use a top tier vender like dell. The handful of homegrown machines I’ve built since then have been notoriously twitchy, but is probably more an indicator of my skills as a system integrator not of the platform in general. Some great, true, and sad points. However, you are comparing old Macs with newer PCs. There are other factors besides processor speed that might be affecting your outcome. In addition, I wonder if the software you’re using is optimized for AltiVec.
Secondly, I agree that NT4 is notoriously stable. Isn’t it a bit sad, though, that M$ofties have to use an old OS to get stability. Nonetheless, it is true that Wintel users can have greater speed and great stability on their machines. It’s still not OS X, but if you’re comfortable in the environment and get get things done (sometimes more) efficiently, why would you buy a new (more expensive) Mac.
Thirdly, I think Motorola is keeping up with (the bastardaized interpretation of) Mohr’s Law over the past year or two. The problem is that somewhere between their speed superiority and today, they lost ground.
I love Apple, but if they don’t find a way to catch up, they’re dead in the water.
