How to Update Your Resume

Update Resume with  Our Resume Help

It’s very hard to write your own resume. You tend to focus on the here and now. A resume has to show a complete picture of your life. You need to present your experiences, abilities and potential not just today but from the past and in the future. Some people can do a good job on writing or rewriting their own resume. When you rewrite your resume, you need to rethink your goals. Those have probably changed from the goals the original resume focused on.

Here are some tips to help you update  your resume:

1. Focus on what you have achieved

resume helpThe intention of a resume is not to tell your life story. You need to focus on your achievements only. A promotion on a job is the best kind of achievement. Promotions show that other employers were impressed with your work. You also need to explain your achievements on prior jobs. Provide examples of the quality of work you have done in the past. Don’t just say ” I was a good employee” prospective employers need concrete examples. Don’t worry if your achievements don’t fill a whole page. Just make sure what is on the page sounds great!

2. Use your resume to market yourself.

You need to sell yourself with your resume, because a resume is a marketing document. Show yourself in the very best light. Choose your words carefully. As long as what you say is the truth, you will be fine. You just have to know how to word what you want to say in the right manner.

3. Leave some information for the interview.

Only address some of  the positive  on your resume. Save some information to divulge in the interview. A resume is only an introduction. Make it sound so interesting that the reader wants to get to know you better. You will do the hard sell at the interview.

4. Refreshing your resume is important.

Reflect on your most recent accomplishments and add them to the resume. Be sure your resume clearly tells what your career aspirations are today. Goals change, be sure to highlight your newest goals. Add new employment, skills, professional activities and accomplishments. Keep your resume current.

5. Edit and edit again

As you add new information, consider taking older, not as pertinent information of f. Decrease the detail you provided about older jobs unless you want to pursue the same type of work. Proofread to ensure it is error free.

A poorly constructed resume or one that doesn’t place the proper focus on your abilities can very easily disqualify you from the hiring process. It can be difficult to put a good resume together.
