Choosing Your Stock Market Broker | Get Info On…
Mar 31st
A stock market broker is a licensed investor on their own right or a trader. They either work for a company or on their own or can invest in the stock market for individual investors or corporations. Only members of the stock exchange can conduct transactions, and even if you want to trade online, you will still need a broker because individuals do not have access to the electronic markets.
Investor needs
The specific needs of the investor are the first consideration in the choice of a stock market broker. If you as the investor want to receive advice on which stocks to buy or to sell and yet are uncomfortable with making trades on the internet, you need to hire a full-service broker. On the other hand, those investors who are confident and knowledgeable to make their own trading decisions are better off with discount brokers.
Competitors
When finished with deciding on the type of broker you want to hire, you as the investors are advised to compare a few competitors in order to find out if there are significant differences in costs. This is significant because you may want to hire your broker for a number of trades to be made. Other pertinent details would include the amount of cash to be deposited, the type of margin accounts to be used, and the kind of services to be rendered.
Qualifications
Stockbrokers in the U.S. must first take Series 7 and Series 63 examinations in order to receive their stockbroker license. Beginners in the business of stock brokerage must first learn the market. Many expert brokers first started out spending long hours on the phone building up their client base. These expert brokers have expanded on the success of their former customers. The key point here is credibility because stockbrokers often advise their clients on the best and most suitable investments.
Functions
A good stockbroker must have the ability to explain the workings of the stock exchange to his clients. After the orientation and the client has a working knowledge of what to expect, the stockbroker can then collect information on the client’s needs and financial ability. The stockbroker may draw up an investment plan and the stockbroker will put the order out on the floor of the securities exchange by phone or by computer. Once the transaction is done, the client (now the buyer) pays for the stocks. The broker then performs the clearing and settlement procedures and transfers the stock title accordingly.
Choices
As a beginning investor, it is important to decide right away whether you want to hire a discount stock market broker or a full-service broker. Discount brokers supply a minimal level of service, but they also allow you to make trading decisions online. Full-service brokers will provide the same, plus in-depth analysis if necessary. They will also give out advice with each trade. The only difference is that their services call for higher commissions and fees.
Commitment
Schedule a meeting first before committing to any brokerage house. You are supposed to know your broker personally before handing him your money. Find out what exactly is the specialty of your potential broker. It is quite acceptable to first question each stockbroker about their different trading styles and what they typically handle.

3 Tips To Writing Your Best Resume
Mar 31st
If you are writing a resume for the first time, then employing the use of resume templates can make your experience much simpler. However, before you begin choosing resume templates, you must first understand what a resume is exactly. A resume is not simply a summary of what your previous experiences are, the content of your resume needs to be relevant to the hiring team’s viewpoint. One of the most frequent mistakes that job hunters make is to create a “one size fits all” resume that they send to all prospective employers without tailoring the resume to the specifics of the job. You want your resume to showcase your skills and experience to the specify job you are applying for.
Tip #1: Use Local Resources
Examining and studying existing resume templates can provide you with an ideal reference point when it comes to creating your own resume. You may find galleries of templates in Microsoft Office, Open Office, or online through search engines. You can also locate books on resume writing at your local library. Certain online communities, such as LinkedIn, have the resumes of their members uploaded online. You can also view these resumes to observe the formats and styles these corporate individuals have utilized. With such online communities, you will be able to narrow your search down specifically to individuals who work specifically in your chosen field.
Tip #2: Emphasize Your Best Skills
Additionally, before you make a final decision regarding the resume templates you would like to use in your job search, you will need to familiarize yourself with what the interviewer will be looking to get out of the resume. There are several essential skills that a prospective employer will be looking for. This list of essential skills includes communication and listening skills, your ability to be a team player, goal orientation, analytical skills, and motivation. This is an extensive list of skills to be conveyed on one resume template.
Tip #3: Seek Assistance From Local Resources
If you need assistance in choosing from amongst templates or help with the content of your resume, then you can seek assistance from your local community career center. Additionally, many local community colleges often offer classes for locals on how to write resumes and how to hone their interviewing skills. There are numerous online resources that will assist you in writing your resume. Your resume is your opportunity to make a first impression upon a prospective employer; therefore, the resume templates that you choose are going to be a critical step to creating this first impression.
Ten Things You Can Do to Your CV If You Want to Avoid Working
Mar 31st
“Work is the curse of the drinking classes,” or so they say. In any case, it’s a bind, a pain. Your boss is a dimwit who doesn’t understand or appreciate you and, anyway, a deranged chimpanzee could do their job ten times better. So, what’s the answer?
Well, of course, there are the traditional solutions such as robbing a bank, winning the lottery or getting hitched to a millionaire(ss). But the probability of any of those coming up trumps is too small and can’t be relied upon. Fortunately, there’s a much easier way to avoid working and yet, at the same time, let you appear to be making an effort to find work.
Put the remote down a moment, get off the sofa and find your CV - it’s worth the effort, honest! Now just do the following:
- Delete a key part of your name and address so that no-one can reply to you.
- Give a phone number that goes with somewhere you used to live.
- Use an email address that you no longer have or, if you can’t do that, then garble a part of it (e.g..co.uk instead of.com).
- State that your favourite hobbies are watching daytime television, preparing and eating TV dinners and reading the TV Times.
- Insert some carefully thought through spelling and grammar mistakes so that the whole CV is ambiguous and unclear.
- In the covering letter, put down your reason for applying is that you didn’t want a job that was too challenging as either you have other demands on your time (if you are young) or you want to wind down for retirement (if you are a bit older).
- If the company is advertising for several vacancies, never say which vacancy you are applying for.
- Mis-quote (rather than omit), any employer’s reference number.
- Never include anything you were specifically asked to provide (e.g. referee details, a ‘no convictions statement’, why you are applying etc).
- Finally, do photocopies of photocopies of photocopies (it’s worth the cost) so that the whole thing ends up as grey text on a grey background, and staple it together with the last staple in the machine so that it doesn’t fasten properly and the ends stick up. That way, whoever opens the envelope can leave their blood all over your application.
If you think this is just a humorous ‘throwaway’ piece, it isn’t. People do these things (and worse) all the time and then wonder why no-one gives them a job. With the high level of competition for every job vacancy that there is now, why handicap yourself further by sending in a substandard application?
Of course, if you’d prefer to go back to the sofa and wait for that lottery cheque to drop through your letterbox…
Cover Letter Mistakes
Mar 31st
When applying for a job it is important that your cover letter highlights the skills and qualifications that the employer is looking for. It’s important to spend time on this letter to make sure you get it right.
In part 1 I showed you the most common mistakes that people make with their letters. In part 2 I will show you some more. Avoid making these mistakes!
- Telling your life story The employer doesn’t need to know what you did from the moment you left high school. They only want to know what skills and experience you have that are suitable to the position they are advertising for. If they are looking for a team worker give them an example of how you worked well within in a team in your working career. Don’t ramble on about how you’ve always been a team player - ‘From the age of 5 I always shared my pencils …’
- Using weak language When writing about yourself don’t use weak phrases like, ‘I believe’ or ‘I feel’. Use strong phrases such as, ‘I am confident’, ‘I am convinced’, or ‘I am positive’. These will make you sound like a more capable, confident person.
- Handwritten letters This is irritating for the employer, especially if you have terrible writing. It gives an unprofessional image. Also, some companies scan job applications and it is much easier to do this if the letter is typed. If you don’t have access to a computer and printer yourself there are many public places that you can go to and use their facilities e.g. libraries. You could even ask a friend to type it up for you.
- Desperation Although you would love to work at the company that you’re applying for, don’t make yourself come across as desperate e.g. ‘I would so love to work at your company. You are the best in the world! I would be so grateful to work with you. You wouldn’t even have to pay me much and I’d never need a holiday.’
- Gimmicks Don’t add graphics, clip art or fancy multi coloured fonts. These will just annoy the employer. Keep your letter professional.
- Photos (I just had to include this one)’ Don’t send any unsuitable photographs - this does make you wonder what some employers receive in the post.
I hope this article helps you to avoid, what might seem like silly, mistakes. I wish you lots of luck with finding - and getting, your ideal job.
Evaluating Accounting Resume Samples Online
Mar 31st
Searching online for accounting resume samples can be a tough job but reading through them can hone your own senses to your skills. Powerful tools can be created to land a job and bring more money to your position. Regardless of the type of resume you’re writing, there are still a few basics which should be included.
Two-page resumes are the norm for executives wanting to either change jobs or move up. With enough information, decision makers in Human Resources can see if a candidate is qualified. Including the right format, title, objective, career highlights, job history and experience are all essential to get an interview.
Because first impressions are important, formats should be clean, simple and readable. Two fonts maximum can be used with the first being for the heading or title, and the second being for the content. Keywords are also important and should be words included in the job description. Many HR departments are using software to scan resumes for certain keyword phrases and words pertaining to the advertised position.
When applying online, some companies ask for specific formats when submitting resumes. However, if none is identified, using a PDF format shows skill in document production, using the Internet for attachments as well as presentations. This type of document can also retain the design and layout of a submitted format keeping it’s integrity for a good first impression.
Another key element to the creation of an effective resume is the objective statement. This should reflect your goals if hired for the applied position. Working towards a goals is crucial when getting hired. For example when writing a goal for accounting resume samples, it might say, “to work in a team environment, helping clients with business development while meeting the goals of my employer.”
Chronological order is another aspect used by old school resume writers. Instead, relevant order is more effective with the most pertinent information first. Since the tendency is to skim through a pile of resumes, listing the most relative experience and education becomes necessary to keep the reader interested in the resume.
Career highlights under the objective are just as important as vivid and keyword filled job history content. Using this section, one can focus on exact skills using the advertised job description as a guideline. This helps the recruiter see a good fit quickly. After glancing through highlights, an interested employer can look at the details included in an experience section of a resume.
When searching online for any accounting resume reading thoroughly through executive positions can help determine what information to include in your own document.
12 Great Direct Mail Advertising Ideas | Business and Advertising …
Mar 31st
It is all about you!
When you are advertising your services, it is not the time to be modest. Include your photo (you may be surprised how many people recognize you) and a brief resume. Humanize your image by including memberships in community organizations or church groups. If you live in the neighborhood you are targeting, be sure to mention it.
Be Flexible
“Service On Your Schedule: Evenings and Weekends At No Extra Charge!”.
Use Full Color Postcards With Lots Of Photos
A picture is worth a 1000 words or even more! Include Photos of your facilities, examples of your work, your staff, your customers and yourself!
Invite Them To Make A Switch
Use this headline: “ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR CURRENT PROVIDER? OUR CUSTOMERS ARE! READ WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY: ” Written testimonials (a sentence or two) work great.
I Guarantee It!
A personal guarantee says a lot. For example: ”We show up when we say we will, we treat your home like it is our own and we’ll finish on time and within budget. I own the company, I’ll be at the job and I guarantee the work”. That’s Powerful.
Build A Foundation Of New Customers In Your Own Neighborhood
Why not prospect in the neighborhood where you live. USPS Carrier Route Maps make it easy to target specific neighborhoods. People like to do business with locals. You can even offer a neighborhood discount.
Go Fishing For New Customers – Use A Price As The Bait
We are not suggesting a “Bait and Switch”, an attractive price for a specific service will “lure” more prospects to respond. Which offer do you think sounds better? A) ”Storm Windows Replaced – Call Now And Save!” or B) ”Storm Windows Replaced – Most Homes In This Neighborhood Only 5 per Window!” . You can always include a disclaimer such as: “most homes”, ”window size”, “single story homes only”, etc. Some will see a price and say, “that’s too expensive”, but others will remark “I didn’t realize it was so reasonable.” Prices pre-qualify prospects before they call.
Promote Your Website With Direct Mail
Don’t have one? You should. And it should contain more than just a laundry list of your services. Testimonials, tips, monthly specials etc. The website should have plenty of good content that can be used to sell new clients and keep the ones you have.
Mail More or More Often?
Better to mail 15000 homes one time or to 5000 homes three times? Direct mail experts emphasize that repetition is an important factor in the overall success of a campaign. Targeting a smaller territory, mailing more often and supplementing your direct mail with additional media can result in a steady stream of prospects, rather than a flash in the pan once or twice a year.
Make A Specific Offer
While it may be a good idea to include a “laundry list” of all the services that you offer, don’t make that the highlight of your ad. That type of ad is better suited for a directory, like the yellow pages. When people go the the yellow pages, or some other directory, they have already decided they need your product or service. Direct marketing presents more of a challenge. We are trying to get the attention of a prospect who is probably not thinking about a home remodeling as he goes to his mail box. Our goal is to get the prospect excited about a project. Offer a home remodeling project that is popular and a great value and then, promote it in a tantalizing way. Remember, all we are trying to do is generate a lead.
Prospects Don’t Know We Are Here!
Hard to find location? Include a map on your postcard. In addition put a photo of your storefront so folks will correlate the address with a visual image.
Special Offers Don’t Always Have To Be Discounts
Try adding value instead of a discount. Price your product competitively and then add more product or service for the same price. For example, a postcard for a carpet cleaner might say “3 Rooms Cleaned for 9 – Plus 1 Chair Cleaned FREE!” This is a “WIN, WIN OFFER”. He gets his full price for the carpet cleaning and lets the client know that he also offers upholstery cleaning – and after cleaning one chair the rest of the upholstery may look a bit dingy, which could lead to an additional sale. The value added offer doesn’t always have to be free either. We’ve all been asked to “SUPER SIZE” our order at a fast food restaurant. That extra .99 for a larger fountain soda and a few extra french fries really adds up.

Is It Okay to Lie on Your Resume?
Mar 31st
Have you Tried Benign Embellishment?
In my world, Benign Embellishment is a highly professional form of what some of us have come to understand as BS or for the sake of my professional identity; CP (Cow Poop).
We both know it’s never okay to lie. Even a little white lie (as my mom used to call it) will come back to bite you! However, when it comes to job hunting the very use of our resume and adherence to HR hiring protocols puts us at an immediate disadvantage. If the employer is unable to accurately interpret our successes, work history, gaps in work history, times, dates etc., the resume will most likely end up on the wrong side of the grass!
What is Benign Embellishment (BE)?
BE is an honest and forthright way of presenting your credentials to a potential employer in the very best and most comprehensible form. BE is your weapon in opposition to the actuality that we have all failed in our jobs from time to time. i.e., you are over 50 and in some cases over 40, or maybe too young, or have a gap in your work history, and/or any of the hundreds of screening mechanisms that will land your resume in bucket 86.
Examples of Benign Embellishment (BE)
You run in a race with 5 people and you finish 5th. Did you finish dead last or in the top 5? Did you graduate college in 1969 or did you just happen to leave the graduation date off your resume? Did you open your first lemonade stand in 1950 or is it possible that nobody cares what you did prior to the moon walk.
In light of graduation season, here’s a couple for your kids: Are you entry level with no experience or are you a recent college graduate who has spent the last 16 years of his/her life studying, learning and experiencing what your peers will do to bring your employer into the next generation? Is your cumulative grade point average under 3.0? If so, throw out the philosophy and/or thermo dynamics courses you flunked as a freshman, recalculate your GPA using just coursework from your major and state as follows: Cumulative Major Grade Point Average 3.2.
A good rule of thumb is; the less said the better. Keep them guessing and wanting more. Anything you say on your resume can and will be used against you in the Human Resources department..
Go now and get yourself some CP for that darn resume.!
5 Ways to Improve Your Cover Letter Introduction
Mar 31st
Creating a proper introduction is perhaps the most important part of writing a cover letter because it introduces hiring managers to you and helps them decide whether they want to know more about you. There are often a lot of mistakes made when writing cover letter introductions. To help you avoid them, let’s look at what some are and how you can make the changes necessary to improve your cover letter.
Avoid Starting with “Hi,”
Starting your cover letter with “Hi,” shows the hiring manager that you have no idea who to address within the company. Instead, find out who is hiring or conducting interviews for the position then start your letter with “Dear (insert name),” to show you want to directly address the person you hope will hire you. If you research and still don’t know who to address, try “Dear Hiring Manager,” as a backup option.
Sidestep the Blanket Opening Statement
Writing an opening like “I want to express my interest in applying for your Communications/Public Relations position” expresses the obvious to a hiring manager and is a statement made by dozens of candidates.
A great way to sidestep the blanket opening statement is by diving in and talking about who you are as a candidate and why you’re qualified for the position. It sets you apart as a candidate, which does wonders for personal branding.
Try Not to Make Your First Sentence Too Long
Hiring managers read cover letters and resumes all day. They’ve seen it all and can become bored quite easily with long, run-on sentences. So if you make your first sentence the length of a paragraph, you’re sure to lose the hiring manager’s interest and decrease your chances of having the rest of the document read.
Don’t Start With a Narrative
You may feel that your professional history is so compelling that it deserves a narrative, but that’s best saved for your autobiography, not a cover letter introduction. If you start the letter with “Beginning in 1995 with (insert company name), I always knew I wanted to excel in public relations,” you may receive an email from the company that begins with the current date and ends with “we’ve found another candidate who is more qualified.”
Proofread Your Document (Especially the First Sentence)
There’s nothing worse than reading mispelled werds in a profesional documint, right? (See, it’s not too fun, is it?). So be sure to thoroughly check for typos, grammar issues and misspelled words. This way, your resume won’t be tossed in the trash over avoidable mistakes.
Cover letters open a window into your professional background and give you the opportunity to add the depth you can’t provide in a resume. So handle your introduction with care to ensure all hiring managers who read your letter will want to learn more about you.
